Soft Hackle | Fly tying
The soft hackles are soft feathers, they are used in fly tying to give movement to the flies. Among the many feathers that can be used very well known are the feathers of guinea fowl, pheasant and marabou. Less known are the feathers of blackbirds and thrush. The peculiarity of the latter is that they are much softer than the other existing feathers. The feathers of blackbird and thrush give a unique movement to the flies because the hackles are much thinner.
Soft hackles are feathers to be used mainly to tie wet flies and nymphs but they can also be used for streamer and dry flies.
